COMPANY BACKGROUND
In 1995 Maggio Beef formed MBC Food corp. to
focus on the beef, poultry and specialty items division, which
has traditionally shown higher profits.
In 2002 MBC Foods corp. was spun off from Maggio Beef
Corporation and merged with a publicly traded company under the
symbol MBCF.
Maggio Beef Corporation was established in New York
City in 1970 as a wholesale supplier of quality beef. John Maggio,
who founded the company, remains its principal shareholder, with
the balance of shares being held be other members of the Maggio
family.
MBC Foods operates out of 7800 sq ft plant at 555 West
Street NewYork, NY, which was acquired in 1998 and is used to
manufacture hamburgers, poultry and other beef products. All
equipment meets strict government (USDA) guidelines, including
special refrigerators, blast freezers, glass board walls/ceilings
and two 100 gallon water heaters. The USDA inspects the plant
every day. This division internally was called the ground meats
division.
PRODUCT DIVERSITY
MBC Foods corp. has been steadily improving
its profit margins by adding an increasing number of manufactured
items to its product lines. Skilled butchers cut, slice,
trim and package meats into filets, chops, cutlets, ribs, stewing
meats, hamburger and other specialty products. Some of these,
such as a marinated chicken specialty and a pure beef hamburger,
are packaged and sold under the Company's private label. M.B.C.
now manufactures over 100 products made from beef, pork, lamb,
veal, chicken, duck and turkey. Processing these products requires
refrigerators, freezers, hold area and grinders meeting USDA
sanitation standards, as well as specialized equipment for weighing
and packaging products, complete with weight/price dating and
bar coding. MBC has also spent $350,000 to make it's manufacturing
facilities fully compliant with Hazards Analysis and Critical
Points Control Plan guidelines which are the industry standard.
